  • Lions helps with lighting at Pegasus Riding School

Lions Club of Belconnen with the assistance of a grant from the Australian Lions Foundation (ALF) assisted Pegasus Riding School for the Disabled by providing the funding to upgrade all the lighting at their facility to LED.

From the Pegasus Riding School newsletter

    Let there be light

A massive thank you goes out to the Australian Lions Foundation LTD and the Lions Club of Canberra Belconnen for the fantastic new lighting in the indoor arena and in the administration offices.
A joint project by the Australian Lions Foundation LTD and the Lions Club of Canberra Belconnen (to the value of $7,293), the lighting upgrade will improve our ability to provide quality services (especially during winter months when the days are shorter and darker), and will offer longer hire periods to third party users. Along with this, is the advantage of reducing our carbon emissions and power bills. Thanks again to the Australian Lions Foundation LTD and the Lions Club of Canberra Belconnen. We greatly appreciate your support!

  • Volunteers Xmas Party at Pegasus

This year the volunteers Xmas party for Pegasus volunteers was held on December 2. Pegasus has in excess of 140 volunteers and most attended the function which was held in the arena. Guests were entertained by a Scottish band and a country & western group. As usual we provided the cooking expertise to supply the sausage sizzle. The following members assisted on the night.

  • National Museum BBQ

Each year the National Museum as part of International Disabled Week hosts a number of students from the special schools around Canberra. This year around 140 children attended and were treated to a number of shows throughout the morning. As part of the programme our club is asked to provide the manpower to cook up the sausage sizzle for the children. The event organiser is Suzie Higgie from the Museum's entertainment department.
Despite the inclement weather Neal Miller, Ron Skeen & Gary Jones set up and spent a total of 9 manhours cooking and serving the sausages.
A number of public and staff called in for a sausage and were charged a gold coin. The collection was passed onto Pegasus.
